The T3sk3y Defenestrator

Two Thousand Nine Hundred and Four. Exactly.

Well, I should be glad somebody thinks that it’s worth something..

LeapFish.com has a ‘Doman Name Value’ tool that estimates how valuable your domain name is. Out of curiosity, I checked out the priceless “t3sk3y.com” domain, and got the following analysis:

Combined Value Score: 44
Top Level Domain Score: 10
Unwanted Characters Score: 8
Dictionary Word Score: 3
Length Score: 12
Archive.org Score: 1
Google Search Results: 7
Yahoo Search Results: 0
MSN Search Results: 5
Search Engine Score: 10

Estimated Base Value: $132.00
Estimated Actual Value: $2,904.00

Hm. Apparently it really doesn’t like the 3′s in the name (apparently they aren’t 1337 enough!) and Yahoo! doesn’t like me either. Yahoo – guess what – nobody likes you either.

As a comparison, I checked some of the domains owned by colleagues:

  • 28thavenue.net: $11,354 (for some reason, LeapFish likes bicycle confessions better than bedhead or pinball)
  • andersonfam.org: $14,406 (nice job, anderiv!)
  • jayber.org: $19,154 (yay, Benski!)

Hm. Well – every parent thinks their baby is beautiful – and strangers can admit that some babies really are ugly. I think LinkFish just told me that my baby isn’t winning any beauty contests – by the domain name, at least.

Heather – you have nothing to worry about.

My wife is very tolerant (and even often supportive) of my arcade collecting habit. In the past year, my collection has swelled to include 5 pinball machines (Funhouse, Black Knight 2000, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Flight 2000, Eight Ball Deluxe) and two video games (a MAME cabinet and Operation: Thunderbolt). Along the way, there have been several more that have been in and out. As long as I self-police my collection size and expense, I’m reasonably sure that I can continue to enjoy my wife’s support.

I’m here to tell you now..

Heather, you have nothing to worry about. I’m nowhere close to this guy.. yet.. :)

Peter Hirschberg – My Arcade – Arcade Pics

This guy has literally dozens of video games and pins in his complete arcade conversion – including blacklight carpet and change machines.

I’m drooling – but I’m guessing there would be mutiny if I tried this..

Jockey Cures “Plumbers Ass” with Tech

Most people with blogs bitch about politics. Not me. Others talk about world issues, religion, health, or something else that somehow improves the world.

Not me.

I focus on the really important problems.

Problems.. like.. Plumber’s Ass.

It now looks like it’s a thing of the past:

Time to hand it off to the pros.

I SUCK at lawn care.

To start with, we got some pretty bad sod in our new development. It’s loaded with crabgrass and weeds. On top of that, all the soil underneath our sod is good ol’ MN River clay – so nothing grows well. Therefore, this spring – my lawn looked pretty bad right from the git-go.

But, this year is going to be different! I’m going to make my lawn one to be proud of!

I started turning over my new leaf.. er.. blade of grass, as it were.. by putting on my spring coat of weed & feed fertilizer. My spreader, inherited from my wife, decided to dump PILES of it out onto my lawn. Yes, piles. Ever try to scoop fertilizer back up? Nope, impossible. For my troubles, I’ve now got big dead spots and nasty streaks all over my lawn. Grr.

So, 1 month into the new season, I’m retiring. I’m taking bids on having the pros come out and thatch (tried it once and dug up half of my lawn), aerate, and properly fertilize / kill the nasty stuff.

Some Kind of Monster

It’s always entertaining to watch heavy rockers turn into huggy, touchy-feely guys..

I ended up watching the documentary “Some Kind of Monster” over the weekend. For those not in the know, it’s the documentary that was filmed over two years during the recording of Metallica’s “St. Anger” album.

It started out as a film about recording a new album – and quickly got derailed as the band struggled with the firing of their longtime bass player, chemical dependency, egos, and creative differences. To combat this, they hired a top-gun shrink that specializes in getting highly-paid egomainiacs to co-exist. In the midst of all of this, they had to confront their control issues, 9 months in treatment for the lead singer, and all kinds of personal baggage that comes with a bad family life and 20 years as a rock star.

Along the way, they took two years to create the album – and it’s pretty amazing to see the process and the progress they made. I always liked the St. Anger album – since watching it I haven’t really stopped listening to it. It’s got a really different vibe than the rest of their music and now I see why.

In the end, they had auditions for a new bassist that included a who’s who of heavy bass players. Apparently, putting up with that lifestyle and those personalities pays well – they offered new bass player Robert Trujillo (ex-Suicidal Tendencies and others) a tidy little signing bonus of $1 million “Just to show they were serious”. Wow.

Get this one off Netflix if you get a chance – it’s a great watch!

San Francisco 2006 – more pictures!

I was finally able to upload the rest of the pictures from our San Francisco trip with the Bilstads at the end of April. As usual, there are some classics!

Click here to see the rest of the pictures – and be sure to give a Thumbs up or Thumbs down for the ones you like/don’t like! BTW: Check out the new slideshow viewer!

New Smugmug favorites!

My photo hosting site – SmugMug.com – has added a ratings feature to their site. You can go through the pictures and give each one a ‘Thumbs Up’ or a ‘Thumbs Down’ – just like TiVo. The 12 highest rated pictures make the favorites on the front page.

Please help me out by rating my shots – I’m just curious about what peoples favorites are! It’s simple to do – just hover your mouse over the image when it’s selected – then pick either the Green thumb or the Red thumb.
